How to make Coarse Dirt in Minecraft

Coarse Dirt is a specific type of dirt. The difference between this type of dirt and regular dirt is that grass and mycelium can’t grow on it, therefore it’s constantly brown and “naked” on top (unless there is Snow). If you want the terrain to look a certain way, you can use this tool to personalise trails on the ground.

Let’s take a look at all of the options for getting this block.

Uses

Grass does not grow on Coarse Dirt, as previously stated. This isn’t to say that it can’t be utilised to cultivate crops. Bamboo, Flowers, Mushrooms (even Huge Mushrooms), Saplings, Sugar Canes, and Sweet Berries can all be planted on it.

Using a Hoe on Coarse Dirt (by right-clicking on it while holding the Hoe in your hand) turns it into ordinary Dirt, which may then be turned back into Farmland.

When you right-click a Coarse Dirt block while holding a Shovel, it transforms into a Dirt Path.

Where can I get it?

To begin with, Coarse Dirt occurs naturally in the following biomes:

Shattered Savanna Platea

Modified Wooded Badlands Plateau

Shattered Savanna

If you find yourself in one of these locations, a simple Iron Shovel can be used to pick up a large number of them.

However, finding one of these biomes may take some time, which is why the Coarse Dirt recipe may be the best option.
