Minecraft is a game in which you can build and create houses and ships. Your imagination can run wild in the creative mode or you can decide to last as long as possible in the survival mode. Whichever option you opt for you’re bound to have crazy fun and Channeling in Minecraft. The gameplay is packed with several resources and items that come handy to you throughout the game. One such resource is channeling. However, in order to understand what channeling is it is first important to understand what enchantment is and how it works in the game as enchantment and channeling are closely linked.

What is Enchantment? 

Enchantments are assets or bonuses that you can apply to your armor, weapons, or tools by using an enchantment table or an anvil if you already possess enchanted books. Enchanted books are very useful. If these books are near an anvil or an enchanted table then higher level enchantments and more enchantments are available for you to apply to your tools and armor. 15 bookshelves achieve the maximum level of enchantments.

When an armor or tool is successfully enchanted it will shine brightly like a potion for other players to know that you are holding an enchanted item in your hand. An enchanted item will display their level of strength and current enchantments on your screen in the inventory menu. Shovels, pickaxes, axes, swords, armor, and much more can easily be enchanted and used on mobs for maximum damage.

What is Channeling?

Channeling is an enchantment in Minecraft. Specifically, it is an enchantment that works with the trident item in the game. The trident item is a rare item that was introduced to Minecraft in version 1.13. It is a rare item to possess because it cannot be crafted or repaired if damaged. Simply put, you can place the channeling enchantment on the trident to summon lightning and clear several enemy mobs with a single blow. If you already possess a trident then channeling is a must because it turns an already powerful object more destructive for you to use on your enemies. Channeling will give you the power to turn pigs into zombie pigs, villagers into witches, red mushrooms into brown mushrooms, and so on. It is a powerful tool to have in your arsenal.

What are Minecraft Tridents and What do they Do?

Tridents are an item in the Minecraft gameplay. They are very rare and a powerful tool to use underwater or in aquatic battles – since you cannot use a bow and arrow under water. Tridents have the capacity to deal drastic damage to aquatic animals. Players can also fly using the riptide enchantment on the trident on a rainy day.  

As discussed above, trident is a rare item which cannot be crafted. In order to acquire a trident for channeling purposes you are going to have to defeat underwater zombie mobs called Drowned which are spotted more in deep oceans than rivers.. These mobs appear holding a trident, therefore, in order to obtain their trident you are going to have to fight them, be able to defeat them and hope for a chance of trident dropping; even though that chance is very low.

If you are playing the Bedrock edition then you have a slightly higher chance of trident dropping when you defeat a Drowned. You can also use Minecraft seeds to create an underwater world for a better chance of encountering Drowned zombies and defeating them. While battling a Drowned, you can boost your chances of obtaining a trident if you have already applied the looting enchantment. However, if you are playing the Java edition then you have a significantly lower chance of acquiring a trident from these mobs. 

Another way of acquiring a trident in Minecraft is to create a trident farm. Minecraft has a farm for almost all items. You can create a trident farm by spawning Drowned on a platform that is above the player. The Drowned are then funneled into a specific killing area where they are slain by you in hope for obtaining a trident. If you are looking to create a trident farm then you’re going to need common items such as

• Water
• Chests
• Glass
• Wooden buttons or signs
• Cobblestone
• Slabs

Etc. 

There are a total of 7 enchantments available for tridents in Minecraft. Once you have a trident you can use one of these 7 enchantments to enchant your trident: Riptide, Channeling, Impaling, Mending, Loyalty, Curse of Vanishing, and Unbreaking.

How to Enchant a Trident with Channeling?

As discussed above, you can enchant your trident with the channeling enchantment. Let’s now discuss the process of doing that. In order to enchant your trident with channeling you will need an enchanted book with an anvil or an enchantment table. 

The process of enchanting your trident using an anvil is as follows: 

• Place down the anvil
• Place your trident in the first slot
• Place the enchanted book in the second slot
• You will receive a product with channeling enchantment

The process of enchanting your trident using an enchantment table is different. The enchantment table must be placed down in the center of 15 bookshelves stacked at the height of two. Once that is done you can then enchant your trident with channeling.

What Does Channeling Do in Minecraft?

Channeling is one of the enchantments that you can use on a trident. It summons lightning when thrown on a mob and causes severe damage to them. However, you will only be able to summon lighting during a thunderstorm. Also, the mob must be exposed to the sky while using the trident so that the lightning can hit the mob. 

In the Java edition channeling does not affect a mob under the following circumstances:

• If a mob is in water
• If a mob is in powder snow
• If a mob is in lava
• If a mob is in honey block
• If a mob is in soul sand
• If a mob is in a cobweb

However, even though in these circumstances the mobs cannot be hit by lightning they are still affected and damaged by the lightning if it lands near them or in the area in which they are.

In a recent update players can receive Advancements through channeling as well. You can get the “Surge Protector” Advancement if you throw a channeling trident at a lightning rod near a villager. The only condition is that the villager should not be harmed and no blocks should be set on fire from the lightning. Similarly, you can get the “Very Very Frightening” Advancement by striking a villager with lightning.

Updates are always welcomed in Minecraft. The trident and channeling update is a fun way to advance in the game and strike fear in the hearts of your enemies. It also provides a sort of a higher power that you can exercise on your enemy mobs to kill them in a single blow. All in all, it makes the game more fun and a delight to play.
