Inventory plays a great role in Minecraft. Having a good inventory is crucial because it makes finding daily objects as well as novel objects easy when you require them. Not being able to manage proper inventory may result in numerous consequences, such as being unable to protect yourself while being attacked by an enemy mob or being able to quickly find a health potion when your health status is about to diminish. How to Make A Chest in Minecraft

Keeping that in mind, Minecraft has provided the convenience of chests. These chests are like bags or suitcases where you can organise all your tools, potions, and amory. Chests are a very important element of the Minecraft gameplay which is why you have the option of making a chest. Before we get into that let’s first understand what chests are and how you can better use them.

How to Make A Chest in Minecraft?

Importance of Chests and their Use in Minecraft

Chests can be used as bags or containers with all your tools and potions. They can also be used as fuel in order to fire your furnace. Generally, you will find chests in dungeons, villages, jungle temples, end cities, desert temples, ocean ruins, shipwrecks, ruined portals, ancient cities, etc. Large chests are usually found in dungeons with one chest next to the other.

There is another kind of chest in Minecraft called the Bonus Chest. This is a chest that appears near your avatar’s spawn if you have enabled the “Bonus Chest” option in the menu settings. It contains random tools, items, and food objects that can help you survive in the game if you’ve recently joined and started playing as a new player.

You also have the option of using chest as a crafting ingredient to create a bigger chest. This is done by placing a chest adjacent to another chest in order to join the two together and crafting a bigger chest. To place a chest use the ‘place block control’ on a block to place the chest adjacent to another chest. However, if you want to prevent two chests from joining together and forming a bigger chest then this can be done through sneaking. This can be done by either placing the second chest facing a different direction than the first or pushing the second chest into place using a piston. It is also important to remember that water and lava do not affect the chest or the items within it. Lava can create fire next to the blocks where the chest is placed and it may seem as if the chest is on fire but the items within the chest are safe and untouched.

Furthermore, small chests contain a total of 27 slots for inventory whereas a large chest has double that amount with 54 slots for inventory. You have the option of organising the items in your chest as well as moving items from your chest into your inventory. This can be done through dragging the items from the chest into your player inventory or by clicking (up)+shift.

Moreover, you will be unable to open a chest if there is an opaque block above it. However, it is important to remember that solid faces do not prevent chests from opening, the lid of the chest can open and disappear through stairs and slabs as well as full transparent cubes such as glass and ice. Although, if there is a cat sitting on your chest then you will be unable to open it. Since chests are transparent in their function you can place one chest on top of the other and still be able to open the one that is down below. You are also able to access your chest and the objects within it if you are hurt or being attacked by other players or zombies etc.

By default the chests are labelled as “chest” and large chests are labelled as “Large Chests”. You can change the labels on the chest by naming the chest on an anvil before placing them in your desired blocks. The capacity of chests may also vary depending on a few factors such as its size, whether the items in the chest are stackable or not, and if shulker boxes are used. Shulker boxes are blocks that can store and transport items. Moreover, minimum capacity can be obtained if only non-stackable items are stored whereas maximum capacity can be obtained when storing items that stack to 64. On the other hand, shulker boxes are not stackable but they can each hold 27 stacks of around 64 items. Thereby, filling your chest with shulker boxes increases the maximum capacity of your chest.

You can attach your chest to a donkey, mule, or a llama as well. However, if you attach a chest to these animals then you will only get 15 slots in total to store your items. On the contrary, using shulker boxes increases that capacity and gives you a storage space of 405 stacks for your items. It is also necessary to know that once you have attached a chest to either of these animals you will be unable to remove the chest except by killing the animal.

How to Make A Chest?

After fully understanding the importance and functions of a chest, let’s now begin to understand how to make a chest in Minecraft.

To craft a chest in Minecraft all you need is a crafting table and 8 blocks of wood planks. The wood can be of any kind, you don’t require a specific kind in this. You can also conveniently make a crafting table if you don’t already have one. A crafting table is made out of four blocks of wood planks. You need to place these wood planks into four slots of your inventory crafting menu in order to make a crafting table.

Similarly, wood planks can be made as well; in fact, they are easier to make than the crafting table. All you are required to do is place wood logs into crafting menu slots and you will receive wood planks in return.

When you have the wood planks and the crafting table ready you can then begin to make a chest. What you need to do is to fill up every slot of the crafting table with wood planks except for the middle slot. Once you do that you will receive a chest in return. You can then place your chest anywhere you want and begin to use it according to your own liking.

Conclusion

The fun of playing Minecraft rests in being able to procure new objects and craft new potions. This gives you a range of customizations for your avatar and the surrounding world. Now that you know how chests work, don’t be shy about exploring the terrains of Minecraft and obtaining new items and objects. Remember, you can always use shulker boxes to increase the capacity of your chests. Happy exploring!
