When Mojang revealed that bees will be included to the game, the Minecraft community erupted. And who can blame them, given how adorable these critters are?

However, much as in the real world, adding a creature or object to Minecraft has an effect on the rest of the game. Along with the bees, there was the new Honeycomb item. Honeycomb is used for making candles, waxed copper, and even more beehives.

To put it another way, after you have enough Honeycomb, you can build your own self-sustaining Honeycomb farm. Without the stuffy white safety jackets, it’s beekeeping.

In Minecraft, how can you acquire Honeycomb?

In Minecraft, there is just one way to obtain Honeycomb: use a pair of Shears on a Bee Nest or Beehive. Let’s take it one step at a time.

Locate the Bee Nest

Shears may be made using two Iron Ingots, which can be obtained by smelting Iron Ore. Place one Iron Ingot in the centre slot of your Crafting Table and the other in the bottom-left slot.

Then you must locate a Bee Nest that contains honey. Bee Nests spawn at random in trees all around the globe, and there are always bees buzzing nearby. Even if you discover one, you won’t be able to harvest its honeycomb until it’s full.

A Bee Nest’s bees will scatter to seek for pollen whenever it is not raining. When a bee returns to the Nest and then leaves again, the Nest’s “honey level” rises by one. When the honey level reaches five, honey will begin to flow out of the Nest. This indicates that it is ready to use.

Honeycomb harvesting

Approach the Nest and cut it with your Shears. Three units of Honeycomb will emerge, and its honey level will return to zero.

But be cautious: when you harvest from a Bee Nest, all the bees within will emerge and begin hunting you. They won’t let you go until you’ve been stung, which will deliver immediate damage and poison you for a few seconds.

Quick tip: To avoid enraged bees, create a fire immediately beneath the Nest or a campfire within five blocks of it. The smoke from the fire soothes the bees and prevents them from attacking you. Repeat this method as many times as necessary to collect all of the Honeycomb you desire. Bee Nests will never die as long as there are bees in the region.

In Minecraft, how do you utilise Honeycomb?

Honeycomb may be used in a variety of crafting recipes.

First, you may build a Beehive out of your Honeycomb. Beehives function in the same way as Bee Nests, except they can be placed wherever you like. Fill the top and bottom rows of your Crafting Table with Planks, and the centre row with Honeycomb, to make a Beehive.

Beehives do not arrive with bees; you must either wait for bees to locate the hive naturally or attract them to the hive with flowers (bees will follow anyone holding a flower). Each Beehive may contain up to three bees at the same time. After that, you may create Candles. When laid down, candles serve as a light source, but they must be lit with Flint and Steel. Simply arrange one piece of String above one piece of Honeycomb to make a Candle. A Honeycomb Block may be made by forming a square with four pieces of Honeycomb anyplace on your Crafting Table. This is a purely ornamental block designed to resemble honeycomb. Finally, Waxed Copper may be formed by mixing one piece of Honeycomb with anything made of copper. Waxing your copper goods will preserve them from oxidising, allowing them to retain their natural hue.
