Shovels are tools that make gathering soil, sand, and other blocks easier.

• Enchantment odds are the same as they would be for a level 20 to level 39 enchantment on an enchantment table with no level 30 cap, that could apply treasure enchantments (excluding Soul Speed and Swift Sneak), and that did not diminish the possibility of multiple enchantments.
• All enchantments, including treasure enchantments (excluding Soul Speed and Swift Sneak), are equally likely, and any level of enchantment is equally likely.
• Between 15% and 80% of the item’s entire durability has been reached.

An iron shovel has a 0.67 percent (3.33 percent on Hard level) chance of generating zombies and husks. If they are slain by the player, they have an 8.5 percent chance of dropping the shovel (9.5 percent with Looting I, 10.5 percent with Looting II, and 11.5 percent with Looting III). The fallen shovel is normally highly broken and may be charmed: 0%–25% on Normal difficulty and 3.125–25% on Hard difficulty, depending on regional difficulty, and enchanted as if on an enchanting table at levels 5–22.

Raids

Vindicators and pillagers spawning from raids have a 4.1 percent chance (5.12 percent on hard) of dropping a badly broken iron shovel with a random enchantment. 

As part of their trades, novice-level toolsmith villagers have a 25% chance of selling stone shovels for one emerald, journeyman-level toolsmith villagers have a 25% chance of selling enchanted iron shovels for two emeralds, and expert-level toolsmith villagers have a 50% chance of selling enchanted diamond shovels for five emeralds.

Stone shovels may be sold for one emerald by novice-level toolsmiths, enchanted iron shovels can be sold for 7-22 emeralds by journeyman-level toolsmiths, and enchanted diamond shovels can be sold for 11-27 emeralds by expert-level toolsmiths. [Only for Java Edition]

The enchantments are the same as those gained at levels 5–19 from an enchanting table.

‌A shovel may be enchanted with a variety of enchantments in Minecraft. Each enchantment has a unique name and ID value. These enchantment values can be used using the /enchant command.
